The Product Management market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.39% from 2025 to 2034. This rapid growth underscores the expanding influence of product management in a tech-driven global economy.
Yet, while the discipline is growing, the job market is tightening. In May 2025 alone, Product Manager roles declined by 4.6%—a sharp contrast to the 9.7% growth seen in April. Today, there are approximately 810,000 individuals with PM experience competing for just 22,000 roles globally. That’s one job for every 37 active PM job seekers.
Remote opportunities continue to rise. Over the last six months, remote PM roles have grown by 15%, while hybrid and on-site roles are slowly declining.
Compensation Benchmarks: What PMs Are Earning in 2025
The average U.S. salary for a product manager now sits at $120,509. Junior PMs earn about $79,601, while mid-level PMs make $104,580. Senior PMs average $125,554, Directors of Product hit around $151,484, and VPs are clocking in at $175,000 and higher. These numbers reflect not just increased responsibility—but growing accountability for business outcomes.
Strategic Leadership: The New Expectation
Today’s PMs are expected to behave like CEOs of their products. They define vision, align teams, prioritize roadmap decisions, and own KPIs that directly affect growth and profitability.
Senior and leadership-level PM roles have increased by 6% this year, while junior roles have declined by 14%. This shift suggests that organizations are investing more heavily in seasoned talent who can own business impact, not just delivery.
Product-Led Growth & Revenue Accountability
The rise of Product-Led Growth (PLG) means the product itself is now responsible for driving customer acquisition and retention. In 2025, startups embracing PLG are outperforming their peers, thanks to seamless user onboarding, in-app personalization, and real-time data feedback loops.
At the same time, more companies are holding PMs accountable for revenue metrics—aligning product strategy directly with ROI. Usage-based pricing models, in particular, are showing higher retention and growth than traditional fixed-fee models, making pricing strategy another lever under PM control.
Where the Jobs Are
In January 2025 alone, more than 26,000 new PM jobs were posted weekly in the U.S. Of those, about 12,000 were for general PM roles, 3,061 for senior PMs, and over 10,000 for Directors of Product. However, given the oversupply of experienced talent, it’s more important than ever for PMs to upskill in areas like AI, storytelling, and stakeholder alignment to remain competitive.
